Independence Day Security Alert- U.S. Embassy Malabo, Equatorial Guinea

Location:  Malabo

Event:  During the upcoming 50th Anniversary of Independence celebration from October 10-12, Equatoguinean authorities are likely to increase security in Malabo.  During a military parade scheduled for October 12, road blockages are anticipated between Arab Contractors Branch Office to the Paseo and from the President’s Palace to Arab Contractors Branch Office.  Expect an increased police presence and be prepared for road closures at various points throughout the city.  Air travel may be temporarily suspended on October 12, the final day of the celebration.

  • Monitor local media for breaking events.
  • Avoid large crowds and demonstrations.
  • Ensure that you have sufficient supplies of food, water, and fuel.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Keep a low profile.
