Embassy Partner Opens Headquarters to Serve Equatoguinean Women

On May 19, Equality and Human Rights for Women in Africa Director Anastasia Nzang Nze inaugurated the organization’s new headquarters and center for training underemployed women.  Anastasia Nzang Nze is a well-known woman’s rights advocate with whom the Embassy has partnered with for outreach events related to women empowerment and countering gender-based violence.  The opening was organized by Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) Mandela Washington fellows as well as the director of La Mujer Ideal (The Ideal Woman) organization, Lucas Escalada, and members of his team.  During the joyous occasion, La Mujer Ideal announced a donation of 3,246,500 CFA  (nearly $6,000 USD), which they collected during their popular December 2017 charity gala, to support the human rights organization’s efforts to secure a new battered women’s shelter.  The DCM gave brief remarks at the inauguration congratulating Anastasia Nzang Nze, acknowledging Lucas Escalada and Mujer Ideal’s community service efforts, and conveying U.S. support for combating gender-based violence.
